چکیده

A semi-empirical model for surf zone wave height decay is adapted to the parabolic equation method in order to include the effect of depth-limited wave breaking in combined refraction/diffraction calculations. Several examples for plane beaches are presented in order to show correspondence between the empirical model, its numerical formulation, and previous laboratory data. The model is then applied to the study of wave breaking and diffraction around offshore islands of various planforms. An analytic method for constant depth, which can be used to extend computed solutions to the farfield downwave of the island, is provided, and several simple examples treating the island as a finite width breakwater are examined.

Solving the Governing Equations of Sea Waves Nonlinearly and Designing A CETO Mechanism for Energy Extraction from the Waves of Larak and Faror Islands

In this paper, the governing equations of sea waves are analyzed nonlinearly and the energy extraction from the waves in the Lark and Faror islands in the Persian Gulf is determined. According to the data in the last 31 years, the waves of these two islands have the most incidence for the height of 0-0.4 m and 0.4-0.8 m corresponding for the time periodicity of 2.4-3 s and 3-3.6 s, respectively...

Numerical Modeling of water-waves induced by landslides with WC-MPS method

The rapid movement of sediments, which is often induced by a very erosive and transient flow in rivers and rivers, causes a lot of geomorphology and engineering problems. Failure of the dam with a moving bed, submerged landslide, sedimentation flushing in reservoirs are just a few examples of these problems. The study of waves is challenging due to the interference of several complex physical p...

Distribution and Abundance of the Corals around Hengam and Farurgan Islands, the Persian Gulf

The percentage cover and distribution of scleractinian corals were studied at two Iranian islands in the Persian Gulf. Survey techniques involved the use of 20-m line transects placed at 4-9 m depth interval, parallel to the shore. GIS based maps were employed to show the distribution of hard corals. In Farurgan Island, hard coral cover was concentrated in the west and north-west of the island,...

Numerical Modeling of Tsunami Waves Associated With Worst Earthquake Scenarios of the Makran Subduction Zone in the Jask Port, Iran

The recent studies show that the past researches may have significantly underestimated earthquake and tsunami hazard in the Makran Subduction Zone (MSZ) and this region is potentially capable of producing major earthquakes. In this study, the worst case possible earthquake scenarios of the MSZ are simulated using fully nonlinear boussinesq model to investigate tsunami hazards on the Jask Port, ...

Numerical Calculations of Ship Induced Waves

Nowadays, various numerical methods are developed to extend computational fluid dynamics in engineering applications. One of the most useful methods in free surface modeling is Boundary Element Method (BEM). BEM is used to model inviscid fluid flow such as flow around ships. BEM solutions employ surface mesh at all of the boundaries. In order to model the linear free surface, BEM can be modifie...
